Runway vs Kling AI: Which AI Video Generator Should You Use in 2026?
Start with Runway if your job involves generating shots, revising footage and assembling sound in one workspace. Check Kling 4.0 if you need a longer single generation with native audio and several reference assets. This is a workflow comparison based on official documentation; we have not run a matched output-quality test.

Current model and plan facts
Checked October 30, 2026. The duration row compares individual model generations, not an edited sequence made from several clips.

Choose around the next editing decision
| Your job | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Revise an existing shot | Runway’s editing and audio workflow. Official source | Changing picture and sound separately gives you a practical revision path. It does not prove a better final result. |
| Direct a longer scene | Kling 4.0’s keyframes and references. Official source | Its documented 30-second limit gives one generation more room; complex continuity still needs inspection. |
| Keep a character or product recognizable | Try the same approved references in both products. | Reference support is a control, not a guarantee that a face, logo or package remains unchanged. |
| Budget a repeatable campaign | Check the selected model’s credit charge before submitting. | A subscription price alone does not tell you the cost of retries, extensions or a final export. |
A useful comparison you can run
Use one original product image and a five-second brief: a slow camera move, one action and no text. Keep aspect ratio and duration equal. Save the model name, generation charge and settings; then inspect object shape, motion, sound and downloaded-file properties. Repeat only the failed part of the brief. This is a proposed test protocol, not a test we performed.
For dialogue, first decide whether you want sound generated with the picture or separately. Runway can use both approaches at platform level; comparing only Gen-4.5 with all of Kling would hide that distinction. Official source

Does Runway generate video with audio?
