Cloudflare cf: Agentic CLI, Access and Wrangler Migration
cf is Cloudflare’s new command-line interface for its public API and Workers projects. It is in open beta and supports coding agents through command discovery and machine-readable output; it does not supply the agent model itself.

What changed from Wrangler?
Cloudflare’s September 28 launch claims coverage of the entire Cloudflare API. Its current docs describe over 2,900 commands; the launch describes over 3,000 operations. These are different measures, not a tested coverage count from this site.
Search and steering help agents find commands, and JSON is the default output. Workers configuration moves to cloudflare.config.ts, with Vite as the default build route. Wrangler remains the existing Workers-oriented CLI; cf has a broader API surface. Some builds continue to delegate to Wrangler.
Installation and a read-only first check
The documented runtime requires Node.js 22.18 or later. Install with npm install --global cf, then verify the version. If another tool already owns the name cf, the package also provides cloudflare.

cf zones listSearch runs locally without credentials. Login authorizes account access; the CLI has its own credentials and does not reuse a Wrangler login. API tokens can be used for automation and take precedence over named profiles.

Migrate deliberately
Begin in a clean working tree and inspect cf migrate --dry-run. The migration command creates typed configuration and may add a project dependency; review its file changes and required follow-up items before running a build. cf resource commands can be used alongside an existing Wrangler project without migrating that project.
Cloudflare announced a future transition after beta, with 18 months of Wrangler maintenance after beta ends. That is not a claim that Wrangler is already unsupported.

Authentication is not permission for every action
Use a token scoped to the required resources and verify the selected account and zone. A successful login or valid JSON response is not evidence that an agent should deploy, delete a resource or purchase anything. Review the exact operation before granting that authority.
Beta commands and configuration can change. We have not installed cf, migrated a project or executed account mutations for this profile. Cloudflare service charges remain separate from installing the CLI.
