An agent working in a design file
The October 6 release adds file search in chat, library guidelines and live visibility into teammates’ agents. Library authors can supply Markdown guidelines, and enabled libraries provide that context when prompting. File attachments and selected nodes help constrain a request. Figma’s GA release notes.
This profile covers the Figma Design agent. Figma Make is a prompt-to-code product; Dev Mode MCP supplies Figma context to coding tools. A third-party plugin has its own developer and terms. They are not interchangeable names for this editing agent.
Check seat, file permissions and admin access
Open Agents in the design file sidebar, or select a layer and use the on-canvas prompt. Current documentation lists all plans. Full seats with file edit access can request edits; View, Dev and Collab seats or view-only access can chat without changing that file. Draft files have a separate allowance: anyone can ask for edits there. Current agent instructions.
AI availability and content-training settings are separate. On Starter, Professional and Organization plans, admins can enable AI previously disabled during beta; once enabled, the documented setting is permanent. Enterprise organization admins can control availability by organization/workspace. Credit access is another control. Admin settings.
AI credits after beta
From October 6, agent use consumes the shared Figma AI budget, including the budget used by Make. Cost depends on prompt complexity, actions and context; the old free-beta wording is no longer the current billing rule. Credit transition FAQ.
Full-seat monthly allocations in current documentation are 500 on Starter, 3,000 Professional, 3,500 Organization and 4,250 Enterprise. Dev/Collab/View seats receive 500 where available. Starter and View users also have a 150-credit daily cap. Seat credits reset monthly, do not roll over and cannot be transferred. Check AI Balance and your admin’s limits before a larger task. Use a constrained design brief
Fictional brief, not run: “In this draft of Fern Studio’s booking form, create a mobile variant using the enabled library. Keep the supplied labels and validation messages. Explain which components you reused and flag anything that needs a new component.”
Review responsive layout, component linkage, reading order and contrast yourself. Library context is useful guidance, not proof that every resulting frame meets your design system or accessibility requirements. No user design file was accessed or edited for this profile.
