Best AI Website and App Builders 2026: Prompt to a Live Site

Compare Bolt, v0, Framer and Lovable when the job is a live website or web app from a prompt. Review tokens versus credits, hosting, branding, Git export and the limits that decide whether a prototype can ship.

Direct answer: choose by the deliverable

Shortlist Bolt for a hosted site or app from a prompt with a published token allowance, v0 when the output should land in a Vercel and GitHub workflow, Framer when the site must be designed and published in a visual editor, and Lovable when you want a chat-built web app billed in credits. The buying unit is not the same: tokens, monthly credits, site plans and build credits cannot be compared as a single price per page.

This is a documentation-verification guide. Plan names, allowances and limits below are quoted from each vendor's pricing page on the check date. We have not built the same product in all four tools, so no quality ranking, speed score or conversion claim is made.

How this shortlist was selected

Four candidates were kept because they cover four different shipping paths: a token-metered hosted builder, a Vercel-native UI builder, a visual site publisher, and a credit-metered chat builder. Editor and coding-assistant products that do not publish a site or app were left out, as were tools whose current plan dollars could not be read from a public page without a login.

Hosted prompt-to-app

Bolt

The official pricing page sells a free token allowance and a Pro plan that removes the daily token cap and site branding.

Best for
A public or private project that Bolt hosts for you
Check first
Daily and monthly token limits, branding, file-upload size and hosting request cap
Limitations
The free plan puts Bolt branding on websites and caps tokens per day and per month.
Where this fits and when to skip

Use the free plan to see whether one real brief fits inside 300K tokens in a day. If the prototype has to go live without Bolt branding, the published Pro plan is the relevant comparison, not the free allowance.

Vercel and GitHub workflow

v0

v0's pricing page sells monthly credits, a free daily-message cap, and paid seats that add model access and team billing on Vercel.

Best for
UI and app generation that should deploy on Vercel
Check first
Daily message cap on Free, included credits on Plus, and whether extra credits are billed separately
Limitations
The free plan documents a 7-message-per-day limit, which is a hard stop for iteration.
Where this fits and when to skip

For teams already shipping on Vercel, GitHub sync and Vercel deployment are the main fit. Plus displays $30 per user per month; hosting charges and additional generation credits should be budgeted separately.

Designed and published sites

Framer

Framer sells site plans, not a pure prompt meter: Free for trying AI, Basic from $10/month, Pro from $30/month, with extra editors at $20/month.

Best for
A site that designers will keep editing after the first AI draft
Check first
AI credit allowance on the selected site plan, custom domain, CMS collections and bandwidth
Limitations
AI credits are only one line on a site-hosting plan; bandwidth and CMS limits can stop a launch first.
Where this fits and when to skip

Decide whether AI is generating a first draft or running the site. If editors will keep changing layout after generation, the CMS, domain and bandwidth lines on the site plan matter more than the credit count.

Chat-built web apps

Lovable

Lovable's pricing page documents a free daily grant of 5 build credits and explains credit use for building, Cloud hosting and in-app AI features.

Best for
Building and hosting a web app from chat, billed in credits
Check first
Daily build-credit grant, Cloud credits, and the credit cost of your actual prompts
Limitations
Daily grants expire each day. Pro starts at $25/month and Business at $50/month for 100 shared workspace credits; higher usage changes the cost.
Where this fits and when to skip

The public FAQ is the usable source: it states how credits are spent, not a single monthly dollar figure. Open the live pricing table before buying a Pro or Business seat.

Four AI website and app builders compared

Bolt: hosted prompt-to-app

Bolt's pricing page lists a free plan at $0 with public and private projects, a 300,000-token daily limit, 1 million tokens per month, Bolt branding on websites, a 10MB file-upload limit and hosting up to 333,000 web requests. Pro is listed at $25 per month billed monthly, with no daily token limit, a start of 10 million tokens per month, no Bolt branding, private sharing, a 100MB upload limit and hosting up to 1 million web requests. Yearly billing is advertised as saving up to 28%.

The meter is tokens, not pages. A short landing page and a full-stack app will not cost the same, and the page reviewed here does not publish tokens per typical prompt. Treat the monthly price as a starting point and confirm the token cost of your own brief.

When to skip: if you already have a design system in Framer or a Vercel repo you intend to keep. Bolt is a hosted builder; moving the result into another stack is a separate project.

v0: vercel and github workflow

v0 by Vercel lists a Free plan at $0 per month with $5 of included monthly credits, visual Design Mode, GitHub sync, deploy to Vercel, and a 7-message-per-day limit. Plus is shown as the popular paid seat, with access to all models, $30 of included monthly credits per user, $2 of free daily credits on login, the ability to buy extra credits, and centralized billing on vercel.com. Business is listed at $100 per user per month with training opt-out by default. The displayed Plus price is $30 per user per month; $90 is a struck-through comparison price.

The page also publishes token rates for v0 Mini, Pro, Max and Max Fast in dollars per million tokens. That matters if a project outruns the included credits. It does not tell you how many credits one screen costs until you run the prompt.

When to skip: if you need a marketing site with a visual CMS rather than generated UI. Framer is the closer match for that job, and Bolt is closer if you do not want a Vercel account.

Framer: designed and published sites

Framer's pricing page starts with a Free plan at $0, 500 AI credits to try, a free Framer domain, 1 GB of bandwidth and the ability to design pages. Basic is listed at $10 per month billed yearly for creative personal sites, with a custom domain, 2 CMS collections and 50 GB of bandwidth. Pro is listed at $30 per month billed yearly for growing professional sites, with 10 CMS collections, 100 GB of bandwidth, redirects, a staging environment and branching with previews. Additional editors are $20 per month; viewers are free.

The same page shows several AI-credit amounts that change with the selected option. Treat the credit number as plan-dependent and confirm it on the exact Basic or Pro configuration you would buy. Localization, A/B testing and advanced hosting are listed as add-ons, not as included features.

When to skip: if the deliverable is an authenticated web app rather than a site. Bolt or Lovable are closer matches for app logic; Framer is a site publisher with AI credits on top.

Lovable: chat-built web apps

Lovable describes itself as an AI software engineer that builds websites and web apps from chat. The pricing FAQ states that the free plan includes a daily grant of 5 build credits (up to 30 a month), monthly grants of 20 Cloud credits, and 4 credits to try AI features inside user apps. Paid subscribers receive a monthly credit balance that can cover building, Cloud and in-app AI, plus daily build-credit grants. Plan Mode is 1 credit per message; Default Mode varies by task. Published examples include 0.50 credits to restyle a button and 1.70 credits to build a landing page with generated images.

Monthly-plan credits expire two months after issue; daily grants expire each day. Pro starts at $25/month and Business at $50/month for 100 workspace credits. Members share a workspace balance, so adding seats does not itself increase the plan price.

When to skip: if you only need a brochure site with a custom domain. Framer's site plans already include domain, CMS and bandwidth lines that Lovable's credit FAQ does not replace.

How to choose

Start from the artefact you have to ship next week, not from the model name.

A short verification you can run

Use one brief in two tools rather than a vendor demo:

  1. Write a one-page brief: audience, three sections, one form, and whether login is required.
  2. Run the same brief in two shortlisted tools on the free or trial allowance.
  3. Record tokens or credits spent, whether branding appeared, and whether you could export or deploy.
  4. Click every generated link and submit the form with invalid data.
  5. Change one section and see whether the rest of the layout stays intact.
  6. Stop when the free cap is hit and write down what remained unfinished.

A useful pass condition is: the form works, the primary pages are reachable, and you know the meter reading for that brief. Visual taste is not the test.

Pricing and access models

Published facts on September 15, 2026:

None of these figures is a price promise. Regional tax, annual billing and credit expiry all change the effective cost of one accepted prototype.

Limits and when to skip

A generated site can look finished and still fail a launch checklist.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to try an AI website builder?

Start on a published free plan and spend one real brief. Bolt, v0, Framer and Lovable all document a $0 starting point, with different caps: tokens, daily messages, AI credits or daily build credits.

Can I move a generated site off the vendor later?

Only if the plan you use actually exports. v0 documents GitHub sync and Vercel deploy; Bolt and Lovable are hosted builders; Framer is a site publisher. Confirm export on the exact plan before you depend on it.

Why can't I compare these tools by price per page?

They sell different meters: tokens (Bolt), monthly credits and messages (v0), site plans with AI credits (Framer), and build credits (Lovable). Convert each to the cost of one accepted prototype on your brief.

Is an AI website builder a replacement for a developer?

Not for authenticated apps, payments or ongoing maintenance. Use it to reach a reviewable prototype faster, then decide whether the remaining work is editing in the same tool or handing code to a developer.

Which tool fits a marketing site versus a web app?

Framer is the site-plan option with domain, CMS and bandwidth lines. Bolt and Lovable are closer to hosted apps. v0 is closest when the team already deploys on Vercel.
