Check eligibility before you apply
Gemini 4 Carbon is not confirmed as a generally available, self-service model. Google’s October 28 announcement describes an initial release to selected cyber defenders, followed by additional trusted partners through Fairwind, with broader access planned later. An announcement, a subscription or a Fairwind application does not establish that your account can use Carbon. Google’s Carbon announcement.
What is open right now?
| Route | Status as of Oct 29, 2026 | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Selected cyber defenders | Initial restricted rollout described by Google | Access is controlled; the announcement is not a public model endpoint. |
| Fairwind trusted partners | A path for expanding partner access | Organizations can submit an interest form. Acceptance and Carbon enablement are separate questions. |
| General Gemini app / API users | Broader rollout planned; no public date verified | Do not assume a consumer plan, API key or model-name guess unlocks Carbon. |
This status comes from the Carbon announcement. It does not prove that any particular account has received access. If your model picker does not offer Carbon, use an available model rather than an unofficial “unlock” service.
Who can apply through Fairwind?
Fairwind prioritizes organizations responsible for important defenses: governments and national cyber authorities, critical infrastructure operators, and core technology platforms. Its FAQ also welcomes academic labs focused on defensive benchmarking. Applicants are vetted for ethical operations and research. Official eligibility and governance.
The program limits access to approved partners and authorized defensive or research work. It does not allow a partner to share, redistribute or sell access. If you are an individual looking for a general coding or chat model, the public developer alternatives below are a more practical starting point.
Google does not publish a guaranteed application-response time on the checked page. Treat an application receipt as a submitted request, not model access.
The official application route
- 1
Start with the program page
Read Fairwind eligibility and confirm that the organization and intended use fit the program. The page describes security and due-diligence obligations.
- 2
Open Google’s interest form
Use the official Fairwind interest form. Follow its current fields and supply accurate organization and defensive-use information. This listing does not submit the form or grant access.
- 3
Wait for an explicit access decision
Ask which model and capabilities your organization has been approved to use. Program acceptance alone is not evidence that Carbon is enabled.
- 4
Verify the actual account surface
Use the service and model identifier provided in Google’s approval or documentation. Check the available model list and terms before building a dependency on Carbon.
If the form is unavailable, return to the official program page for its current link. No third-party proxy or purchased invitation is needed to read these public instructions.
What can you use while waiting?
For developers, Google has already announced Gemini 4 Argon on the paid tier of the Gemini API in AI Studio and Android Studio. Google AI Ultra subscribers can also try Argon in AI Studio and Google Antigravity, according to the October 13 developer announcement. Account eligibility and product availability still apply. Official Argon availability.
| Your task | Available route to check | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Build with a Gemini API model | Argon developer guide | The announcement specifies the paid API tier; this is not free Carbon access. |
| Agent-oriented development | Argon in AI Studio or Antigravity | The announced subscriber route requires Google AI Ultra; verify access in your account. |
| General chat and everyday assistance | Gemini app | Use the models actually shown for your account. This link does not promise Carbon. |
| Compare other assistants | Assistant comparison guide | Compare the task, account terms and data handling; no claimed equivalence to Carbon. |
Argon is a usable alternative route, not another name for Carbon. A model’s availability on one Google product also does not establish availability on every product.
Does announced pricing mean access?
No. Pricing and eligibility are separate. Google’s announcement gives introductory Carbon rates for its eventual broader release, but that does not provide a public endpoint, a launch date or a guarantee that an existing subscription includes it. Check the announcement’s rollout and pricing sections together.
For a project you need to ship now, select a model your account can actually invoke, record its current pricing and keep the model choice configurable. Revisit Carbon when Google publishes access details that apply to your account.
Continue with the Google Gemini product guide or the Copilot Fusion guide if your immediate need is a coding workflow.
Sources and status checks
Frequently asked questions
Can everyone use Gemini 4 Carbon today?
No general self-service access was confirmed in the official sources checked on October 29, 2026. Google describes a restricted rollout before wider availability.
Is there a public Carbon waitlist?
Google links to Fairwind, whose public interest form is for the partner program. Its checked page still describes Argon capabilities. Do not treat that as a guaranteed Carbon-specific waitlist.
Does buying Google AI Ultra unlock Carbon?
The sources checked do not establish that. Ultra eligibility is mentioned for Argon in AI Studio and Antigravity, which is a different model and access route.
When will Carbon be public?
A specific public-release date was not verified. Follow Google’s announcement and subsequent access documentation rather than inferring a date from launch coverage.
Access status was checked against Google’s public sources on October 29, 2026. We have not applied, received partner access, or invoked Carbon. The Fairwind-page wording difference is disclosed above.
