Vocal removal and music stems
Best AI Vocal Removers & Stem Splitters 2026
Removing a singer for karaoke and extracting the drum track are different jobs. Start with the part you need, then check whether the separator actually exports it.
The short answer
For two-track vocals and accompaniment, inspect VocalRemover.org or a vocal-removal mode. For separate instruments, compare LALAL.AI and ExtractStems; ExtractStems documents 2, 4 or 6 stems. This guide compares supported workflows, not measured isolation quality, and the separated tracks can still contain bleed or artifacts.
How to use this guide
We checked official product pages and the available ExtractStems workflow on October 28, 2026. We did not upload audio or run paid separations for this comparison. We own ExtractStems and identify it next to its entry. Table order is not an audio-quality ranking.
Choose your workflow
Karaoke or an acapella
Choose a two-part split into vocals and the combined instrumental backing.
A drum, bass or another instrument
Choose a mode that lists that exact stem. More stems do not automatically mean a cleaner result.
Prepare a remix or practice session
Export suitable files, align them in your editor and review each part against the original.

| ExtractStems Consider for: Choosing a two-, four- or six-stem workflow (Made by the team behind this site) | The documented modes offer Vocals/Instrumental; Vocals/Drums/Bass/Other; or Vocals/Drums/Bass/Guitar/Piano/Other. Output choices are MP3, WAV and FLAC. Vocal removal is not speech noise removal
A song separator estimates voices and instruments from a mixed recording. Speech cleanup targets distractions around spoken dialogue. Choose a voice isolation or noise-removal tool when your problem is a noisy interview, room sound or a call, rather than a singer inside a music mix.
Also distinguish a drum stem from a drumless mix. One exports the kit; the other requires combining the remaining parts. An output named “Drums” does not imply separate kick, snare and hi-hat files.
The ExtractStems workflow and its limits
ExtractStems (Made by the team behind this site) is a browser-based upload, split and download workflow. Its documented input formats include MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A and OGG. Read the tool profile for access and account checks.
For percussion, the ExtractStems drum separator (Made by the team behind this site) uses a four- or six-stem split with a combined Drums output. It does not automatically produce a drumless backing mix. Import the other parts into your own editor and mute the drum track if that is the result you need.
A listening check you can repeat
Choose an authorized passage that contains both an exposed vocal and a busy section. Keep the same source file when comparing tools. Listen to the source first, then the vocal, the backing track and any required instrument stem.
- Check for words or cymbals leaking into the wrong part.
- Listen for watery texture, softened attacks, missing notes and reverb tails.
- Compare at a sensible matched listening level; louder is not automatically cleaner.
- Import the files at the same timeline position and check their alignment.
- Judge the stem in the context of its intended mix, not only in solo.
This describes a useful test; it is not a claim that we ran a benchmark or that every stem is suitable for release.
Access, output and rights checks
Confirm whether a free offer includes the full download, whether the allowance is one-time or recurring, and what happens to purchased minutes after a failed job. Check deletion and result-retention terms before uploading a recording you cannot recreate.
WAV or FLAC export does not restore details missing from the source. Separating a recording also does not by itself grant permission to redistribute it. Use audio you own or are authorized to process, and review the applicable terms for the intended use.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between two, four and six stems?
Two stems usually separate vocals from the combined backing. The documented four- and six-stem modes add named instrument groups. Check the exact output labels rather than assuming all services use the same grouping.
Does a drum separator remove drums from the backing track?
Not necessarily. ExtractStems exports a combined Drums stem; making a drumless mix requires combining or muting tracks in an editor.
Are separated tracks the original studio multitracks?
No. They are estimates from the mixed recording and may contain bleed, missing material or artifacts.
Is ExtractStems free without an account?
Its public offer states five free minutes after account verification. That is a one-time allowance, not unlimited anonymous processing.
Can an AI agent call ExtractStems through MCP?
No native ExtractStems MCP/API integration is documented here. Its separate agent guide describes an Audionaut local workflow, which is a different product.
